onX Offers a Giant Database of Roads across the Country
From Highways and Streets, to BLM and Forest Service Roads.
The accessibility of back roads differs from state to state, and information regarding whether a road is open, closed, public, or private, may be difficult to establish.
onX gathers back road information from federal and county databases, which classify roads by surface type, but often do not contain data on closures or accessibility. We urge all onX users to double-check with their state and/or county whether or not a certain road is open for motorized use.
We also offer our users the USFS Motor Vehicle Roads & Trails (MVUM) layer, which is found in the Trails & Rec section. The MVUM layer shows certain Forest Service roads and allows you to tap or click them to bring up further information regarding motorized and non-motorized travel.
