onX Hunt uses your device's built-in compass. A typical smartphone has three magnetic field sensors, fixed perpendicular to each other, which are used to work out the direction of Magnetic North.
Open the Map Tools Menu.
Tap the Compass Mode Button.
Compass mode hides and disables most of the buttons. As you turn your phone, your compass heading is visible at the top of the screen. Use the readings on the left side of the screen to find your distance to features on the map.
